So it begins…

Have you ever shouted into the dark, just to see if anyone would respond? Or to listen as that darkness swallows your words? This is what I would imagine that feels like…

“I spoke to the emptiness just to see if it would speak back to me.”

It doesn’t sound nearly as impressive as “When you gaze long into the abyss…”, nor does it feel at all impressive. It feels – crazy? Silly. Ridiculous! That’s what it feels like. Worthy of ridicule. And totally worth that ridicule.

Who is S. B. Wight? Just a pseudonym – an invisible shield to protect an inveterate hermit, someone who has lived social distancing for most of his life as best as he was allowed in this all-too-personable world. That man cowering behind the pseudonym, however, is a father, a husband, a shepherd, and a writer, of course. He is someone who loves what he has created and longs to share it with the world, so long as the world can be kept at arm’s length.

What has S. B. created? A simple, fantastical world at first… but it has grown and grown, as have its inhabitants, into a complex system within an entire amazing universe ruled and run by Mages and witches and a god. Or just into a five-book series, if you prefer the more banal explanation — but five books that have already dominated five years of creative energies, with at least a few more to bring the whole journey to completion.

And this is where that journey begins, perhaps, with the raising of a shield… The raising of a shield as a welcoming, as a call, to join a coward on a hero’s journey.
